Twilight Bay

The photograph of "Twilight Bay" was the end result of many attempts, and many trips to Catalina, with a bulky rented 4X5 view camera. The biggest challenge was finding the right lighting and techniques that would capture not only the twilight, but also the lights of the City and the Bay, and their reflections, and keep them all within proper exposure.

After I learned what equipment and techniques to employ, it still took me many exposures, on three separate evenings, to finally get the shot I wanted.  Each time, after trekking up the hill and setting up the camera in the sunlight, it was a waiting game to see what kind of twilight we would get.  It was certainly well worth it to me, as it brings back the wonderful memories I have of the warm summer nights in Avalon.
