Huntington Beach Pier
Like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, "You never know what you're going to get". I had been watching the skies at this time of year knowing that they often offer a brilliant pallet at sunset. At the time I lived about 35 miles from Huntington Beach, so I had to play the guessing game. Weather reports, the sunset the previous night and experience all came into play.
I had made this trip 4 or 5 times before this particular evening in search of just such a shot, but without success. This time however after "racing" down to the beach in rush hour traffic the sky was showing great promise, so I set up in anticipation. It got better and better as the sun set, and this was the peak moment to me.
Those familiar with the scene can spot Catalina Island, my old home, on the horizon.
